30th September 2016 JPS SELECTION

JPS Selection Go Karting

On a drizzly Thursday in September, the team at JPS Selection exited the office seeking adventure in the form of a Go Karting track in West Bromwich for an afternoon of competition.

It is not the first time that we have visited the track, and a number of my colleagues have successfully progressed from Beginner, to Intermediate and a handful may even consider themselves to be Experts!

As a critical trait of any Head-hunter, our consultants are incredibly competitive, meaning this corporate day out is perfectly suited to their pre-disposed inability to lose. Our first foray with the track on this particular occasion, was a qualifying race which would determine our place on the track.

It was obvious from the start that this particular team activity is taken very seriously by pretty much every member of the team bar myself. I was terrible, qualifying in last place. Game faces were on, battle lines were drawn and engines were revved as we lined up to start the race. The winner – Chris Birkedale – stood proudly on the podium (though I hear this is not his first time at this particular track, not that I’m a sore loser or anything).

Next, we teamed up worst with best, second last with second etc to compete in a relay. Allegedly this was fair, but amongst team members getting in the wrong car, certain individuals doing extra laps (that was me) and plenty of “calm down” signs being waved all hell had broken loose on the track. The winners, Andrew Edge and Andrew Potter took to the podium victorious, and the crowd went wild (sort of).

We rounded off the afternoon with Shogun Tepenyaki (The Cube, Birmingham) which definitely highlighted that some of our team (Finn Neville and Eve Featherstone) should not quit the day job to become professional egg flingers – much to the hilarity of the rest of us.

We’re always looking for new people to join our team, so if you’re thinking of a new role in Recruitment and aren’t afraid of Go Karts, Tepenyaki or flying eggs we’d love to hear from you.
